Film Fest in the Villa
Thursday, April 28, 2022
7pm–10pm
San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site
Come out for opening night at San Felipe de Austin!
Join us for an alfresco movie and dining experience in the Villa de Austin!
The opening act is "Lillian," a dramatic short film set during the Runaway Scrape.
Afterward, you'll enjoy select portions of the award-winning documentary "San Antonio & The Alamo" with the film's writer, producer, and director Mike Vance on hand, providing commentary and answering questions.
|
 |
The Farmers Hotel will serve as the setting for beer and wine service. The replica 1830s bake oven will be fired up so that guests can purchase ready-made pizzas to be cooked and sliced on demand. Local scouts will be selling popcorn, and the Friends of San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site will also be on hand with snacks and drinks for sale.
The event begins at 7 PM and concludes before 10. This event is donation-based, so pay what you can. (Regular museum admission is $10.)
Seating is not guaranteed, and the venue is outdoors at night, so bring a headlamp or flashlight, blanket and lawn chairs, and some bug spray.
This experience is best for those 13 years of age and older.

October is Texas Archeology Month.

Texas Archeology Month (TAM) is an opportunity for Texans to understand the depth and richness of our heritage, from the former dwelling sites of prehistoric hunters and gatherers to historic shipwrecks and military sites; the significance of archeological sites; the importance of proper archeological practices; and contributions made by archeologists to our understanding of Texas' ancient and recent past.

This is a special history event to commemorate the stories of Stephen F. Austin and his settlers, the event will offer themed programming related to historical events that occurred around Austin’s birthday in the years 1821-1836.
As the headquarters of Stephen F. Austin’s Colony in Mexican Texas, the historic town of San Felipe de Austin played a pivotal role in the arrival of American settlers and the ultimate story of independence. Serving as a political, economic and social crossroads in early Texas, San Felipe de Austin and its residents have deep connections to the events that took place at all of the prominent Texas Revolution sites including the Alamo.

The lights – just look at the lights!
The Fantasy Park looks like a fairyland lighted by beams of millions of tiny stars with one giant star hovering over it all. The angels are heralding the birth of the Christ Child. Look – are those the three Wise men coming afar? So many others are here also. There's Santa, Frosty the Snowman, the Sugarplum Fairy, a toy train, Christmas trees, toy soldiers, and the nativity scene. Then, out of the darkness at the end of main Street, march hundreds of children singing, bands playing, and floats covered with lights, slowly making their way down to Fantasy Park. |
